About Flaine

Flaine is a purpose-built resort at 1600 m, known for its exceptional snow record — one of the best in the Northern Alps — and its distinctive, modern architected village in the Grand Massif ski domain. The resort was designed in the 1960s by Marcel Breuer and bold murals by Picasso and Dubuffet are displayed outdoors as part of the layout. Flaine sits in a natural bowl that holds the snow well into spring and offers genuinely world-class terrain: a huge number of uncrowded pisted runs, the long 14-km Cascades piste that drops down to Samoëns, and excellent off-piste bowls. It links directly with Samoëns, Morillon, Sixt and Les Carroz to make the full Grand Massif ski area. The village is purpose-built rather than traditional, but the snow, the skiing and the short transfer time from Geneva make Flaine one of the smartest choices in the French Alps for families and serious skiers alike.

Flaine is the highest of the five linked Grand Massif resorts, sitting in a snow-bowl at up to 2500 m. The local area has 26 lifts and 60 pistes, including the famous long Cascades piste. The same lift pass opens the full Grand Massif — 5 linked resorts, 70 lifts and 265 km of pistes running down through Samoëns, Morillon, Sixt and Les Carroz. There is excellent off-piste in the Gers bowl, an award-winning snowpark and the colossally long Cascades run, the longest descent in the domain.
